Happy Wednesday, Spartans!
Tis the Season! Los Olivos School is hosting five local families through the Christmas Basket Program this year. Oftentimes, these are the only gifts their family will receive.
The families that qualify for this program meet the following requirements:
Recipients must be residents of the Santa Ynez Valley (Solvang, Buellton, Santa Ynez, Ballard, or Los Olivos). The program is open to families with minor children who are struggling financially and are unable to provide for their families at Christmastime. Applications to participate in the program are available beginning September 21st. During the month of October, completed applications are turned in during the times listed below. Families are notified of acceptance to the program in the first week of November.
Each family receives not only a large hamper of food, staples, and toiletries but also a large decorated box filled with wrapped presents for each family member, as well as a gift card for a local grocery store and fresh chickens donated by El Rancho Market.
For those wishing to "adopt a family" in this program, family descriptions noting age, gender and size are prepared and placed on a "Jesse Tree" at the back of the Church starting in late November. Families are “adopted” by local businesses, organizations, families, or groups. Those who adopt families then shop for presents for each family member with an emphasis on the children. Providing not only toys, but warm clothing, and household items. They then wrap the presents and prepare their gift boxes (which we provide) and return them to the Parish Hall at the Old Mission the Tuesday and Wednesday of the basket distribution day. Our volunteers then organize the boxes and prepare the food hampers that accompany each box.Although the website is outdated, fundraiser details are HERE.Please consider signing up to help out a local family. Middle School Community Service students will decorate the boxes and help advocate for donations. I wrote in specific requests if they were listed, otherwise, anything listed is a suggestions. All gifts should be new, wrapped, and labeled with the family number and family member/age.

Hi everyone! Target gift cards are 10% off this weekend! Any amount helps these families. As you’re shopping for your own families the next couple of weekends, please consider adding one or two more items to your cart to help local families in need.
Middle school community service students will be decorating the boxes the gifts will be sorted into and promoting giving back to those less fortunate next week.
Wrapped gifts are due in the office December 12th.
Thank you so much for your continued support and spreading joy this holiday season.

Thank you so much to everyone who donated towards the Christmas Basket Program this year. The office is covered in gifts for five local families that will have an amazing Christmas thanks to your generosity.
If you're able to help deliver these gifts to the mission at some point today, please sign up below. If anyone will be in Santa Maria and can pick up a bicycle from Walmart, please let me know (has already been purchased, just needs to be picked up). It looks like these families will receive everything they asked for this year!
Thank you so much!!

All gifts have successfully been delivered to the Mission.
Thank you to Heidi Liebman for helping me deliver all of the gifts! The Christmas Basket program was able to help 168 local families this year due to the support of the surrounding communities.
Thank you so much for your participation in the program.
